Receiving email on your mobile via GPRS

This information is intended as a guide only. Please consult your telecommunications carrier on the number listed below if you have any queries or problems as Netspace cannot provide technical support on accessing your e-mail via GPRS.

  1. Make sure your network has given you GPRS Internet, not just GPRS WAP
  2. Setup a new GPRS data account for Internet.
    • Telstra's Internet APN is "telstra.internet"
    • Optus' Internet APN is "internet" for personal users
    • Optus' Internet APN is "busintpub" for businesses
    • Vodafone's Internet APN is "vfinternet.au"
  3. Setup your POP mail account. The incoming mail server / receiving POP address is "pop.netspace.net.au". Use your normal Netspace login username and password when prompted.
  4. The outgoing mail server / SMTP server is dependant on which Telecommunications carrier you are with:
    • Telstra's SMTP server is "mail.bigpond.com"
    • Optus' SMTP server is "mail.optusnet.com.au"
    • Vodafone's SMTP server is "smtp.airloom.net.au"
  5. After setting up the account, make sure that it connects using Internet Data Account and not WAP.
  6. Switch off your mobile phone and remove the battery for 30 seconds, replace it and turn on the phone.

Please note that DNS and IP addresses are not required in the GPRS data account, only the appropriate APN.

Netspace recommends that you do not check your email via your mobile phone whilst your email account is in use on a computer as this could cause problems.
